The Prince of Asturias Foundation has conferred its Awards ever since 1981; they are intended to acknowledge scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work carried out internationally by individuals, groups or organisations in the following eight categories: communication and humanities, social sciences, arts, letters, scientific and technical research, international cooperation, concord and sports.


More than 25,000 letters supporting the 200 candidatures presented so far have been received.
Classes will be taught by internationally renowned teachers from 22nd July to 2nd August.
He succeeds José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles in the post by acclamation of the institution's Board of Trustees
