NAVELGAS, IN THE BOROUGH OF TINEO, HAS WON THE 2003 EXEMPLARY TOWN OF ASTURIAS AWARD
Navelgas has about 300 inhabitants and is in 'the Valleys', in the northwest of the borough of Tineo. It has a time-honoured tradition of being a key centre for the economy and services of the whole borough, where some 3,000 people live, and is known as "Gold Valley" because of the large number of gold fields in the area.

The concerns of Navelgas' inhabitants as regards conserving their natural resources and looking after their environment has led to a project to set up a Nature Park, an Ecology Museum and educational nature trails.
