Moving ceremony recalls great figures of Twentieth Century
The Prince of Asturias Foundation paid tribute to some of the outstanding figures of the twentieth century at a ceremony held at Oviedo´s "Auditorio Príncipe Felipe" on Thursday, 24th November.

The Prince of Asturias Foundation paid tribute to some of the outstanding figures of the twentieth century at a ceremony held at Oviedo´s "Auditorio Príncipe Felipe" on Thursday, 24th November. Entitled "In remembrance of the Great Figures", the event brought together Arun Gandhi, grandson of M. K. Gandhi and president of the Gandhi Institute for Non-violence; Duncan Sandys, great-grandson of Winston Churchill and councillor for Westminster City Council; Jane Chaplin, Charles Chaplin´s daughter; John Stravinsky, the grandson of Igor Stravinsky; Isabel de Falla, niece and goddaughter of Manuel de Falla and president of the Manuel de Falla Archive Foundation; Privato Roncalli and Marco Roncalli, nephew and grandnephew respectively of Pope John XXIII; Bernardo Reyes, writer and nephew of Pablo Neruda; Catherine Camus, Albert Camus´ daughter; Gloria Owens Hemphill, daughter of Jesse Owens and vicepresident of the Jesse Owens Foundation; Tatiana Yankelevich, stepdaughter of Andrei Sakharov and director of the Andrei Sajarov Program on Human Rights at Harvard University; Paloma Varela Ortega, granddaughter of José Ortega y Gasset and lecturer at Madrid´s "Autonoma" University; Alejandro Fernández de Araoz Marañón and Tom Burns Marañón, grandchildren of Gregorio Marañón; Jean-Marc Lieberherr, Jean Monnet´s grandson and Laura García Lorca, Federico García Lorca´s niece.

Prince Philip of Spain, Heir to the Spanish Throne, granted an audience at Madrid´s Palacio de la Zarzuela on 24th November to the participants in the tribute entitled "In Remembrance of the Great Figures".

Spanish Television´s live broadcast of the 2005 Prince of Asturias Award Presentation Ceremony was watched by an average of 1,660,000 personas.
