Villar de Vildas, in the borough of Somiedo, winner of the 2004 Exemplary Town of Asturias Award
At the beginning of the nineties Villar de Vildas was an isolated place at the head of a valley carved out by the River Pigueña, earning its living mainly from subsistence agriculture and cattle farming. The advent of mass tourism in Somiedo led to businesses being opened in this sector of the economy, providing new hopes for development.

Wide-ranging institutional support for the XXV Anniversary of the Awards
UNESCO, the European Commission, the Spanish Government, the Regional Government of the Principality of Asturias and Cajastur Savings Bank will each provide backing for the events of the XXV Anniversary.

Paco de Lucía to give a concert in Oviedo´s Prince Philip Auditorium
The 2004 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts laureate, Paco de Lucía, will play most of the compositions from his latest recording, Cositas Buenas, as well as classics from his repertoire.
