The Jury for the 1992 Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, comprising Camilo Caride de Liñán, Antonio Fernández Rañada, Francisco Grande Covián, Rosa Martínez Silvestre, Juan Oró, Julio Rodríguez Villanueva and Emilio Santos Corchero, gathered in Oviedo under the presidency of Severo Ochoa, and with José Antonio Martínez acting as secretary, have unanimously agreed to grant the 1992 Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research to Federico García Moliner, Research Professor at the Consejo Superior de Investigación Científica (Higher Council for Scientific Research).
The Award has been granted in acknowledgement of Professor García Moliner´s important contributions to solid state physics. His studies of electron transportation phenomena in solids, chemical adsorption, and conductor and dielectric surface electrodynamics are of particular relevance. His coupling method for Green´s surface functions is especially well known world-wide and has proved to be decisive in gaining greater insight into the varied phenomena of waves and electrons in solids. With his work, Professor García Moliner has made a decisive contribution to the creation of an internationally reputed Spanish school of solid state physics.
The Jury also wishes to mention Professor García Moliner´s extremely important work in support of scientists in Latin-America and other countries in his capacity as permanent member of the Solid State Committee of the Trieste International Physics Centre and by means of his activities as an organiser of international science workshops and in the publication of books and journals.
