The members of the Jury for the 1984 Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research José Manuel Fernández Felgueroso, Antonio Fernández Rañada, Francisco Grande Covián, José María Lucía Lucía, Federico Mayor Zaragoza, Juan Oró, Julio Rodgríguez Villanueva, Enrique Sánchez-Monge, Enrique Trillas, gathered in Oviedo on the 31st of May and 1st of June, 1984, under the presidency of Severo Ochoa and with José Antonio Martínez Álvarez acting as secretary, have decided unanimously to grant this award to Antonio García Bellido for his research into the genetics of cell development and differentiation. His results, obtained using original techniques, represent a major contribution to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms which regulate the form and size of living beings.
