The members of the Jury for the 1982 Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, Nicolás Cabrera Sánchez, José Manuel Fernández Felgueroso, Antonio González González, Francisco Grande Coiván, Luis Federico Leloir, Juan Oró, Julio Rodríguez Villanueva, Alberto Sols García, gathered in Oviedo on the 20th and 21st of May, 1982, under the presidency of Severo Ochoa de Albornoz and with José Antonio Martínez Álvarez acting as secretary, have agreed unanimously to grant this award to Manuel Ballester Boix.
The Jury wishes to highlight, for its worth as a summary of the scientific activity of the award-winner, his studies of highly-stable free radicals which he achieved for the first time, opening up a wide field of research in organic chemistry with many possibilities for technological applications.
