The members of the Jury for the 1981 Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research, Francisco Grande Covián, Nicolás Cabrera Sánchez, Julio Rodríguez Villanueva, gathered in Oviedo on the 19th and 20th of June, 1981, under the presidency of Severo Ochoa de Albornoz and with José Antonio Martínez Álvarez acting as secretary, have agreed unanimously to grant this award to Alberto Sols García, pioneer of Spanish biochemistry, whose activity has given rise to a thriving, universally recognised school of biochemistry.
