The members of the Jury for the 1987 Prince of Asturias Award for Sports, María Paz Corominas, Pedro Ferreira Lima Bello, Carlos Ferrer Salat, Javier Gómez Navarro, José Luis González, Ladislao Kubala, Anselmo López, Herminio Menéndez, Manuel Santana, Raimundo Saporta, and Jesús Suárez-Valgrande, gathered in Oviedo on the 19th and 20th of March, 1987 under the presidency of Juan Antonio Saramanch and with Antonio Masio Hidalgo acting as secretary, have agreed by majority to grant this award to Sebastian Coe.

The Jury has taken into account the exemplary sporting and Olympic career of Sebastian Coe, as well as his personality, representative of the concerns of athletes and his committed participation in promoting sport.
