The Jury for the Prince of Asturias Award for Cooperation 1988, convened in Oviedo, comprising D. Antonio Asensio, D. Claudio Boada, D. Jaime Carvajal y Urquijo, D. Obdulio Fernández, D. Fernando Morán, D. Manuel Olivencia, Dª Mercedes Rico Carabias, D. Joaquín Ruiz-Giménez, D. Juan Tomás de Salas, D. Alfonso de la Serna, chaired by Adolfo Suárez and with D. Teodoro López-Cuesta acting as secretary, unanimously agree to bestow the Award on Óscar Arias Sánchez, President of the Republic of Costa Rica, for his efforts to achieve peace amongst the countries of Central America and for the rights of the individual and of peoples.
