The Jury for the 1994 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts, comprising José Luis Álvarez, Kosme de Barañano Letamendía, Delfín Colomé, José Antonio Fernández Ordóñez, Rosa Maria Malet, Manuel Martín Ferrand, Miguel de Oriol e Ybarra, Alfonso Pérez Sánchez, Leopoldo Rodés Castañé, gathered in Oviedo under the presidency of Jose Lladó y Fernández-Urrutia and with José Antonio Caicoya Cores acting as secretary, have agreed by majority to grant the 1994 Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts to Alicia de Larrocha, pianist and teacher of musicians, who, after more than fifty years of brilliant performances keeps the tradition of the great Spanish instrumentalists -Casals, Segovia, Zabaleta...- alive, to the point of being considered the finest pianist in the world.
