The members of the Jury for the 1987 Prince of Asturias Award for Arts, Oriol Bohígas, Francisco Carantoña, Edmón Colomer, Manuel Martín Ferrand, Luis Gómez Acebo, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Antonio López, Adolfo Marsillach, Pilar Miró, Luis de Pablo, Eleuterio Población, Ignacio Quintana, Joan Manuel Serrat and Manuel Vicent, gathered in Oviedo on the 30th of April and 1st of May, 1987 under the presidency of Antonio Pedrol Ríus and with José Luis Yuste acting as secretary, have decided by majority to grant this award to Eduardo Chillida, the Basque sculptor, creator of work of universal value in which telluric force and spirituality are combined.
