ALL OF THIS YEAR´S PRINCE OF ASTURIAS AWARDS LAUREATES HAVE CONFIRMED THEIR PRESENCE AT THE TWENTY-EIGHTH AWARD PRESENTATION CEREMONY

 Prince of Asturias Awards Ceremony

The solemn act will be held on 24th October at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo.

All this year´s Prince of Asturias Awards laureates have confirmed their presence at the award presentation ceremony, which is now in its eighteenth year. The solemn act will be held at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo and will be presided by H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias.

This year, the Prince of Asturias Awards have been bestowed on: The National Network of Youth and Children´s Orchestras of Venezuela (the Arts); the organisations leading the fight against malaria in Africa (International Cooperation): The Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça (Mozambique), the Ifkara Health Institute (Tanzania), The Malaria Research and Training Center (Mali) and the Kintampo Health Research Centre (Ghana); five scientists, worldwide leaders in the creation of new materials for the benefit of mankind (Scientific and Technical Research): Sumio Iijima, Shuji Nakamura, Robert Langer; George M. Whitesides and Tobin Marks; Google (Communication and Humanities); Tzvetan Todorov (Social Sciences); Margaret Atwood (Letters); Rafael Nadal (Sport) and Ingrid Betancourt (Concord).

The award-winning institutions will be represented by:

- The National Network of Youth and Children´s Orchestras of Venezuela, represented by maestro José Antonio Abreu, founding director of the Fesnojiv.

- Representing the organisations leading the fight in Africa against malaria: Pedro Alonso and Clara Menéndez, directors of the Centro de Investigação em Saúde de Manhiça, (Mozambique); Hassan Mshinda, ex-director of the Ifakara Health Institute, (Tanzania) and currently Director-General of the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology; Ogobara Doumbo, director of the Malaria Research and Training Centre, (Mali); Seth Owusu-Agyei, director of the Kintampo Health Research Centre, (Ghana).

- Google will be represented by its vice-president Marisa Meyer as well as the President of EMEA Operation (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) and vice-president of Google Inc, Nikesh Arora.

News coverage
Last year, more than one thousand journalists from national and international media registered to provide coverage of the Award presentation ceremony and the events which are held during that week.

The Prince of Asturias Awards presentation ceremony will be broadcast live on Channel 1 of TVE, the International Channel and 24 Hour Channel of TVE, CNN+, Asturias´ local TV channel (TPA) and almost the entire ceremony will be on Euronews, which has more than 180 million subscribers in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Also, the European Association of Public Service Broadcasters, Eurovision, will provide coverage of the award presentation ceremony to its associate members. Eurovision is made up of those European public broadcasters which are part of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU). It now includes 72 members from 52 countries of Europe, the North of Africa and the Near East, as well as 49 associate members from another 28 countries.
