He succeeds José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles in the post by acclamation of the institution´s Board of Trustees.
Asturian economist Matías Rodríguez Inciarte has been elected president of the Prince of Asturias Foundation by acclamation of the institution´s Board of Trustees at a meeting held this morning in Oviedo.
Rodríguez Inciarte succeeds José Ramón Álvarez Rendueles in the post, whose third term of office ended last 31st March and who has been the Foundation´s third president, preceded by Pedro Masaveu (1980-1987) and Plácido Arango (1987-1996).
The Prince of Asturias Foundation has conferred the Prince of Asturias Awards ever since 1981. Its presentation ceremony is regarded as one of the most important cultural events on the international agenda. These Awards have received numerous honours and were acknowledge by the UNESCO in 2004 for their outstanding contribution to mankind´s cultural heritage.
