STATEMENTS BY THE EDITORS-IN-CHIEF OF THE JOURNALS SCIENCE AND NATURE UPON NOTIFICATION OF RECEIVING THE 2007 PRINCE OF ASTURIAS AWARD FOR COMMUNICATION AND HUMANITIES

Science:
"Authoritative, objective scientific communications across borders is essential as science and technology are becoming increasingly integral to global prosperity, yet also increasingly politicized in certain regions. We are delighted and deeply honored that our journal's contributions to public discourse on science and technology have been recognized by Spain's Crown Prince Foundation".

Dr. Donald Kennedy
Editor-in-Chief, Science
Washington D.C., 4th July 2007

Nature:
"This is wonderful honour that took us completely by surprise. It no doubt recognises the dual role of Nature in communicating outstanding science and key societal issues to diverse audiences. But above all, it´s a reflection of the value and impact of scientific research itself within today´s culture."

Dr Philip Campbell
Editor-in-Chief, Nature
London, 4th July 2007
