The Prince of Asturias Foundation has conferred its Awards ever since 1981; they are intended to acknowledge scientific, technical, cultural, social and humanitarian work carried out internationally by individuals, groups or organisations in the following eight categories: communication and humanities, social sciences, arts, letters, scientific and technical research, international cooperation, concord and sports.


All this year’s Prince of Asturias Awards laureates have confirmed their presence at the award presentation ceremony, which is now in its eighteenth year. The solemn act will be held at the Campoamor Theatre in Oviedo and will be presided by H.R.H. the Prince of Asturias.

The 2008 Prince of Asturias Awards grand presentation ceremony is to be held on Friday, 24th October at 6.30 pm.
17th October is the registration deadline.

The finale concert of the XVII Music Week, will be presided by Their Royal Highnesses the Prince and Princess of Asturias.
The Simon Bolivar Orchestra, best exponent of the National Network of Youth and Children Orchestras of Venezuela (2008 Prince of Asturias Award Laureates for the Arts), will perform the Symphony No. 2 in C minor “Resurrection” by Gustav Mahler.

Luc Montagnier has been awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine. The Prince of Asturias Foundation had acknowledged Montagnier’s career when he was bestowed with the Prince of Asturias Award for Technical and Scientific Research eight years ago, together with Robert C. Gallo.
